Benefits to volunteering

Updated: Jul 16

The benefits I have seen in volunteering have been a huge impact to a person’s life. As you feed the spirit/soul to be thoughtful and a decent human being it wants more. You can compare it to an addiction, but a positive one. The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. When a spirit-led compassion begins stirring in the heart, it prompts a response. The response is typically not only you, but our children that are watching. Also a lot of people around you. Then when those people around you get a spark in curiosity and start to follow in your similar steps, a movement starts...that is what Simply-Divine is trying to do ... a movement that needs you to be part of.

In my experience volunteering and helping others have worked very psychologically on my children. They are currently convinced they need to have jobs like doctor, a worker for the United Nations, Nurses, etc. (a people helping job). They just want to help people when they grow up. Anything can happen.. the majority of us are not at the job we wanted as children…but it is so nice to see my children are growing up to be thoughtful humble human beings, all because I chose to volunteer.

I also had a pretty good view of life, but by volunteering it opened my eyes to a lot more going on in this society, the real struggles, my life became more of a blessing in my eyes. While I can shower and eat a hot meal everyday, I got to see with my own eyes people do not have those privileges (not just hear of them). I am now more aware and grateful as I accomplish daily actions in my life.

Seeing with my own eyes the puddle of period blood the young lady just sat in, in downtown Riverside (crying as I am writing this) made me more aware that lunch was just not all Simply-Divine would help with. We are now taking sanitary napkins, blankets, sweaters, sanitary items like tooth brushes, and of course the meal donations or monetary donations.
